Good News and Bad News For Environmental Advocates; From Around the World

The good: South Korea, the world’s 8th largest carbon emitter based on 2009 figures from the International Energy Agency, voted by special committee to impose greenhouse-gas limits on its largest companies.  A few votes remain before the bill would become law.  If it goes into effect, the law would create a cap-and-trade type system starting in 2015.  Bloomberg reports here.

The bad: The Guardian reports that the Rio+20 summit to be held in June of this year is already poised for disaster; it seems unlikely that any substantial environmental treaties or progress will derive from this “Earth Summit redux.”  The Guardian reports here.
