Staying Clean When Going Green: An Update on the FTC’s Green Guide, 11/9/10

The panel will discuss the Federal Trade Commission’s recent revisions to the Green Guides, the implications of the Green Guides on the advertising industry and the challenges companies face in promoting the environmental benefits of their products, recent cases by the National Advertising Division, the advertising industry’s self-regulatory program, involving environmental claims, as well as the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification system and recent lawsuits against LEED and challenges to green building standard setting laws. There will also be a discussion of the interplay between environmental and advertising law issues on the aforementioned topics.

Labeling of animal products, including animal food products and consumer goods, which contain such labels and marketing messages as “humane,” “cage-free,” “free range,” “non-puppy mill,” and “100% faux fur,” which may mislead consumers as to the animal welfare standards of the product bearing such a label.
