TODAY — ELS General Body Meeting, Elections Edition!

Please join us today at 1PM in Room 605 for the ELS General Body meeting.  On the agenda are upcoming environmental law events, and ELECTIONS for next year’s ELS e-board!  As always, tasty lunch will be served.

This week at BLS — watch Food Inc. and join the ELS e-board!

There are two exciting events this week which are sponsored by the Brooklyn Law School Environmental Law Society!

On Thursday, March 24, the Environmental Law Society and the HLPA are co-sponsoring a viewing of Food Inc! The movie will play from 6-8PM in Geraldo’s and food will be served.  Food Inc. is an excellent look into food systems in the US, and raises many provocative questions about sustainability and justice.  Please email nicole.french@brooklaw.edu if you are planning to attend, so that the appropriate amount of food is ordered.  However, RSVP is not required to attend.

Come to the ELS General Body Meeting on Thursday, March 24 from 1-2 PM! In addition to other agenda items, at the meeting we will hold ELECTIONS for next year’s e-board!  Below are descriptions of positions on the e-board — if you are interested in running, please come to the meeting and prepare a short statement.  We will also discuss a variety of exciting programs and initiatives that will be taking place over the next few months.

President (Schedule and preside over executive board and general body meetings, set the agenda and take minutes for meetings, interface between ELS and other student groups or the administration in event coordination or other matters important to ELS)

Vice President (Fill in for President upon any absence, assist with coordination and scheduling of events, make room reservations for events and meetings)

Treasurer (Attend SBA treasurer training and otherwise interface with SBA on treasury matters, create and submit budget (which requires some late summer work), maintain and update budget throughout the year, furnish event coordinators with reimbursement forms and help them process their reimbursements)

Communications Chairperson (gather information about Enviro Law jobs, events, conferences, and ELS events and send emails to our listserve, create and post flyers for events, collaborate on event planning)

Research/ Intercollegiate Chairperson (Work with student representatives at other schools’ Environmental Law Societies to coordinate on research projects and intercollegiate events, such as potlucks and happy hours)

Chairperson of Natural Resources Committee (coordinate one or two natural resources-focused events per semester, including career panels, educational or informational speakers, movie screenings or outdoors events)

Chairperson of Land Use Committee (coordinate one or two land use-focused events per semester, including career panels, educational or informational speakers, movie screenings or outdoors events)

ELS Spring Kick Off Meeting! (Thursday, Feb. 7 at 1PM)

TOMORROW (Thursday, February 7) the BLS Environmental Law Society will be holding its first meeting of the semester in Room 603! On the agenda are: upcoming events; summer internship opportunities in environmental law; Earth Day plans; and ways to get involved with ELS this semester.  Tasty vegetarian lunch from Sahadi’s will be served!  Please join us!
